Perhaps the most important problem arises from numerous indications that certain Hebrew peoples (it is uncertain whether they were “Israelites” or specific Israelite tribes) entered Canaan at periods both before and after the invasion by Joshua.14 Indeed, the question has been asked whether there was an actual invasion of Canaan, led by Joshua, in the days immediately following Moses.
